FLORENCE

THE EXPERIENCE

An off the beaten path discovery of the architects, artisans and artists that make this Renaissance jewel the perfect feminine city. Renowned art historian, Elaine Ruffolo will guide us through a study of Florence as seen through patronage and charity in times of the Renaissance

Join me for a 6 night discovery of a deeper, more authentic side of a city familiar worldwide for its influences on art and culture.  Florence — Firenze, is often described as the most feminine of cities, a phrase immortalized by writer Henry James.

This personification endures because Florence embodies qualities traditionally associated with femininity: grace, elegance, delicate beauty, romance, and an allure that invites intimate connection rather than the conquest of checking a destination off a list.

Florence, in my opinion, is never “done”. Visit after visit continues to reveal its depth and hidden gems; new discoveries, years long renovations that finally reopen their doors, a missed church, a new gallery space, a little known piazza and many little surprises that please the most familiar of eyes.

Florence cradles you in perfectly scaled beauty rather than an overwhelming sense of big city distractions.

This discovery is for both the first timer and the most seasoned Italophile.

A detailed wood carving of a fierce, mythical face with an open mouth, pointed ears, and elaborate decorative elements on a wooden surface.
A man wearing a red apron stands behind a table with colorful paint cups, brushes, and art supplies in an art store or studio, with shelves of supplies and artwork in the background.

Meet Art Historian : Elaine Ruffolo

Elaine Ruffolo has been teaching art history in Florence, Italy since 1990 and is a popular instructor for students and adults alike. Her special interests include the history of patronage and the economy of Italian Renaissance city-states.

Ruffolo firmly supports the idea that the best way to fully understand a work of art is by exploring the context in which it was made. This approach gives the viewer the fullest understanding of the work of art under consideration and at the same time, brings the past to life. Elaine is a gifted expert with whom to explore all aspects of the Renaissance and therefore, THE perfect voice to narrate the beauty our eyes will behold!
